The Hammondsport Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) was chartered in January 1991 to provide a way for parents, teachers and district residents to work together for the welfare of our children. The PTO exists to serve and support the community by fostering opportunities for student and family centered activities. The PTO provides a safe and supportive place for parents and teachers to share ideas and build strong relationships.
In 2020, we became registered as a 501c3 which "officially" listed us a charitable organization in the eyes of the IRS. By doing this the Hammondsport PTO has been able to register at AmazonSmile. This is another avenue for students/family, district staff and all community members to support the PTO. Similar to BoxTops for Education and TOPS in Education, any individual is able to sign up for these programs to make “donations” to the Hammondsport PTO without any money out of pocket!
The Hammondsport PTO supports the school community by creating various fundraising events throughout the year including: Science Night, movie night, various school dances and holiday events, and an annual 5K. We sell concessions and spirit wear at school functions, sell “make your own holiday cookies” sets, sponsor homecoming events and the Scholastic Book Fair to name a few.
We contribute back to the school community by funding student scholarships/senior banners/teacher appreciation gifts, fund the registration fee for the annual Spelling Bee and donate prizes for various other school/student related events/activities. We are also able to provide funding for less common, but necessary miscellaneous items (such as funding for thermometers for school re-opening needs during the Covid pandemic).
We know parents have varying amounts of "extra time" available. Coming to meetings isn’t possible (or of interest) to everyone, but we are always looking for new members and volunteers to donate any amount of time toward events and activities. No matter what your interest area is...selling concessions at a basketball game, helping with the Scholastic Book Fair, or manning a Science Night experiment table we would LOVE to have you join us! New members and fresh ideas are always welcome. There are no membership fees involved in joining the Hammondsport PTO.
