Our annual Curtiss Family Cookout and Field Day kicked off this year with a special seaplane demonstration by Rob Kinyoun. What a fantastic way to kick off the day and send Superintendent Kyle Bower off into retirement. In Hammondsport, we truly do “Dream Big, Work Hard, and Fly High!”

Congratulations to our Silver Lakers for the week of 6/9-6/13. We are so incredibly proud of all your hard work! Keep up the fantastic job. Go, Lakers!

The Student Council had been very excited to be asked by the administration, Officer Joe, and local law enforcement to come up with new names for the hallways in their school. Instead of just Corridor A or Corridor B, these new names, they believed, would make locations throughout their building more easily identifiable, making communication clearer and keeping everyone safer. They took this assignment very seriously. They researched how and why communities chose the names they did for streets. What they discovered was that the majority of streets and roads were named to recognize and honor people, events, or locations. They also learned the difference between words such as avenue, lane, and place. Using a lot of this new information, they worked really hard to come up with just the right name for each of the 8 hallways in their building. Today they had the opportunity to share not only the names of the hallways but why they chose the names and what the new signs would look like.

Congratulations to our final Glenn Curtiss Golden Lakers of the 2024-2025 school year! These students are visionary and inspire positive action in others. They recognize, invest in, and leverage others' strengths to build collective ownership and action. These Golden Lakers help create an environment that empowers others to grow and succeed. Congratulations to these fantastic Lakers!
A special recognition to Mrs. Bower for her many years of service to HCS and the community. Best wishes on your retirement 💜

Congratulations to our Silver Lakers for the week of 6/2-6/6. We are so incredibly proud of all your hard work! Keep up the fantastic job. Go, Lakers!

The Hammondsport Teachers Association offers students awards annually. This year, they recognized students in grades 3rd and 5th. The Hammondsport Alumni Association joined them this year by recognizing students in grades 4th and 6th. These young people were selected by their teachers for meeting the following criteria: working hard and showing enthusiasm, having Laker characteristics in both school and the community, having a positive outlook in all kinds of situations, and helping out teachers and fellow students throughout the day. Congratulations to this year's recipients!

HCS has a Groundskeeper position available. See attached posting for more information.

HCS will be closed today (6/10) due to the flood damage and state of emergencies surrounding us. Stay safe everyone.

On Friday, May 30th, our second-grade students had the special opportunity to learn about the Civil War. Their day was filled with learning about how secret messages were sent, how to make dolls, dancing, and so much more!

On May 30th, our 4th, 5th, and 6th graders participated in our annual career day. We were very fortunate to have members of our Hammondsport community come and present to our students. A special "Thank You" to the following people:
Mr. Greg Henshaw, FEA-Engineer
Mr. Josh OST, Laborers Local 785, Field Rep
Trooper Bronson Cole, New York State Police
Mrs. Leah Butler, Keuka Lake & Land Realty
Jorritsma's, Autumn Mist Alpaca Farm
Dr. Suzanne Patterson, TriCounty Rural Veterinary

Our 4th graders had the opportunity to visit the Genesee Country Village and Museum. The Genesee Valley region is a recreated historic village, providing context for the telling of New York State and 19th-century American history. Chartered as an educational institution by the NYS Board of Regents, the Museum offers opportunities to see, smell, taste, touch, explore, and experience our 68 historic buildings; more than 20,000 artifacts; wildlife paintings, drawings, and sculptures spanning centuries; the living collections in our gardens, on our working farm and at our Nature Center; and the gorgeous landscape that first brought settlers to this region.
